Ms Zakya Daoud is a journalist, historian and writer. As a journalist, she wrote for L’Avant-Garde, a Moroccan trade-union’s (UMT) periodical, Jeune Afrique magazine and did some radio broadcasting. In 1966, she founded Lamalif, a Moroccan journal of studies and reflection with a circulation of 12,000. She was the chief editor until it stopped issuing in 1988.
She has published several books concerning immigration and citizenship and is interested in women’s issues and politics in the three Maghreb countries. In 1999, she wrote about the little-known history of Amir Abdelkrim al-Khattabi, the first Moroccan to fight for independence and initiated the Rif rebel movement in the 1920s.
