M. Stephen Trevathan was born in New York City, and grew up in Porto Rico and the UK, where he has spent most of his life, but has also lived in Spain, the Netherlands and Morocco. Since the beginning of the 80’s, he has taught in every level of education in the UK. Since 1998, he was Director of two schools in Inner London, and in 2006, began teaching education at the University of Roehampton (London). Since 2011, he teaches Comparative Theology, Social Philosophy and Philosophy of Religion in the Masters program at Al Akhawayn University.
He holds a BA in education, and MA in Philosophy of Education (London Institute of Education) and a PhD in Theology (Birmingham University,UK). At present, he takes part in the DProf program in existential psychotherapy (University of Middlesex, UK). He has published a number of academic articles, essentially in the field of the philosophy of Islamic education, in the UK, Australia and Spain.
